Desi Comfort Food That Feels Like Home
Desi Comfort Food That Feels Like Home
By Foodie Humaira
This week, I ditched fancy restaurants and went on a mission to find comfort food that reminds me of mom’s kitchen—simple, soulful, and satisfying.
1. Daal Chawal from a Dhaba in Gulshan
2. Aloo Ke Parathay with Dahi at 8 AM
Yes, I woke up early just to get this! There's a small setup near Saddar that only operates in the mornings, and their aloo parathas are legendary. Stuffed generously, crisped on a tawa, and served with thick, chilled dahi—it was nostalgic in every bite.
3. Chicken Karahi That Smelled Like Eid
Tucked behind Tariq Road is a family-run karahi joint that serves only two dishes—chicken and mutton karahi. I ordered half a chicken and was blown away. Cooked in desi ghee, garnished with ginger and green chili, it reminded me of post-Eid dinners with the whole family.
Why Desi Comfort Food Matters
In a world full of fast eats and delivery apps, comfort food keeps us grounded. It reminds us of who we are, where we come from, and what food is really meant to be—a connection. To family, to tradition, and to ourselves.
Let’s Talk
What’s your favorite comfort dish? Is it something your mom makes? A corner dhaba that’s been feeding your soul for years? I’d love to hear your stories—drop a comment or DM me on Instagram @foodiehumaira.
Until next time,
